Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin approved a $120 billion coal development fund Tuesday, the state-owned news agency
RIA Novosti said.
Putin approved the funding, which will cover the period to 2030, at a meeting to discuss the coal industry's reconstruction in the Siberian city of Kemerovo.
He also met widows of miners and rescuers killed in the Raspadskaya mine explosion in May 2010, noting it was necessary to
take additional measures to protect miners.
Kemerovo is located in the Kuznetsk Basin, Russia's major coal mining region.
