"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" cast a spell on the box office, taking in $168.6 million domestically (Friday to Sunday), and shattering the opening weekend record of $158.4 million set by "The Dark Knight," the reinvigoration of the Batman franchise that premiered in 2008.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is the last in the Harry Potter movie franchise, based on the seven books by J.K. Rowling. The story line of the final book was split into two movies; to-date U.S. box office results for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" are about $295 million, and it had an opening weekend of about $125 million.
