mun2 was named the fastest-growing Hispanic cable network among young adults, ages 18 to 49.
Pronounced mundos, the cable network beat out MTV's Tr3s, Univision's Galavisión and Discovery en Español, according to HispanicAd.com.
From Monday through Sunday, 7 p.m to 11 p.m., in a year-to-year season growth, mun2 grew 61 percent, while tr3s grew 42 percent, Galavisión 40 percent and Discovery en Español 6 percent, according to HispanicAd.com.
Owned by NBC Universal, the program originally launched in 1993 as GEMS Television, and was meant to be the Latino version of Lifetime.
The channel was rebranded mun2 and its programming changed to attract both the Latino and English-language markets.
On Twitter, mun2 has 20,041 followers and speaks to Hispanic Americans about the latest celebrity gossip, including news about James Franco's getting a teacher fired.
But it also uses its social media to encourage the Hispanic community with facts, such as of this one from a latest tweet: "The number of Latinos applying to and going to medical school has risen."
About 124,894 "Like" mun2's Facebook page. And currently, the cable network's profile photo is the lovable Mexican comedian Cantinflas, who was played by Fortino Mario Alfonso Moreno Reyes. The network will be featuring Cantinflas movies beginning Dec. 26 through Dec. 30, beginning with the 1944 classic, "Gran Hotel."
But mun2 does not stop there in attracting its audience. Through its social media channels it engages audiences by posting things like: "Hot chocolate won't cut it with your tamal on Christmas Eve. Try champurrado! Go to mun2.tv for ingredients," or "How would Santa Claus accessorize his outfit if he was... Mexican? Find out on mun2.tv!."
Its slogan is, "you're on," and on its about page, mun2 says: "we believe
in providing young latinos with a unique, new entertainment option that reflects our diverse lifestyles."
Some shows on the cable network are "I Love Jenni," "RPM Miami," "12 Corazones," "From Beyond," "18 & Over," "2RSLVJ (Tú Eres El VJ or "You are the VJ")" and "Reventón."
