Eli Manning Continues His Mastery of Dallas Cowboys

December 12, 2011

Matthew Reagan

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning knows the meaning of "winning time." Manning engineered game-winning drive No. 20 of his career in New York's 37-34 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown in the final quarter.

Manning leads the NFL in fourth-quarter passer rating, has a league-leading five fourth-quarter comebacks (one better than Tony Romo) and has 14 fourth-quarter touchdown passes this season, four better than New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, his closest competitor in that category.

And Manning has had some of his best performances against Dallas.

He has more passing touchdowns (28) and more 300-yard performances (five) against the Cowboys than any other team during his career.

Manning finished with 400 passing yards and two touchdowns in helping New York snap a four-game losing streak and continue its unbeaten streak at Cowboys Stadium.

If he and the Giants can manage another win over the Cowboys in the season finale on New Year's Day in New York and beat either the Washington Redskins or New York Jets in the next two weeks, they can snap a two-year playoff drought.

Jacobs' record

Brandon Jacobs' 1-yard touchdown rumble with 46 seconds remaining in the game gave him 56 rushing touchdowns for his career, making him the Giants' all-time rushing touchdown leader.

Jacobs surpassed Tiki Barber, who played for New York from 1997 to 2006.

After his first rushing touchdown in the second quarter, which tied Barber, Jacobs did his best Terrell Owens impersonation by dancing on the Cowboys' star in the end zone.

Big time D-lineman

Jason Pierre-Paul is quietly becoming one of the best defensive ends in football.

The Giants' 2010 first-round draft pick, who had 4.5 sacks through the Giants' first three games and has 12.5 for the season, was everywhere for the New York defense on Sunday night.

Pierre-Paul posted eight tackles, had two sacks, forced a Felix Jones fumble late in the second quarter that led to a Giants field goal and blocked Dan Bailey's potential game-tying field goal with just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Former Cowboys defensive tackle Chris Canty added a sack on the Cowboys' first possession of the second half.

After tackling Tony Romo for a 4-yard loss, Canty turned toward the Dallas sideline and mimicked Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware's sack celebration.
