Will the World End on December 21, 2012?

Nov. 29, 2011

Staff--HispanicBusiness

december 21, doomsday

This year, 2011, had two high-profile "end of the world" predictions courtesy of Harold Camping and Family Radio. Despite these fizzled-out fantasies, a doomsday scare is already in place for 2012: supposed prediction by the Mayans that the world will end on December 21, 2012. Fortunately for citizens still worried about impending doom, the scientists at NASA have taken a sobering, scientific look at whether the world will really end on December 21, or any other date, in 2012.

According to science, the answer as to whether the world will end on December 21, 2012 is "no."

"Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years," says an informational page provided by NASA scientists, "and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012."

The FAQ goes on to explain how the cycles of the Mayan calendar got mashed up with a Sumerian doomsday prediection (which failed to come true in 2003), and emphasizes the role of the Internet in perpetrating these hoaxes.
