Zsa Zsa Gabor is reportedly in critical condition after emergency surgery to re-attach a feeding tube that became dislodged. Spokesman John Blanchette says doctors at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center are "guardedly optimistic" that Gabor will recover.
The 94-year old actress was rushed to the hospital Saturday after losing consciousness at her Bel-Air home.
Blanchette says that when the feeding tube detached from her stomach, Gabor began bleeding internally and lost consciousness.
Her 68-year-old husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, called 911 and Gabor was rushed to the hospital.
This marks the latest in a string of health problems for Gabor.
She successfully recovered from treatment in June relating to an infection from her feeding tube, which was placed in her stomach after she was hospitalized for pneumonia a month prior.
Gabor has been in and out of the hospital for nearly a year after breaking her hip in a fall at her Bel Air home.
She was hospitalized in late March for high blood pressure following the death of Elizabeth Taylor, her publicist said.
Blanchette said Gabor was inconsolable, and said, "Oh, Jane Russell and Liz Taylor -- I'm next."
Gabor was released that same evening, according to Blanchette.
She was admitted to the hospital earlier that month for spitting up blood and complications with circulation in her left leg.
But she refused to undergo a second operation for a blood clot in her leg, her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, said.
Gabor was placed on blood thinner and antibiotics, which helped increase blood flow.
Most of Gabor's right leg was amputated in January because of gangrene.
"Another big operation is a big risk for a woman who is 94 years old with high blood pressure," von Anhalt said in a press conference.
He said that when doctors told Gabor of their plans to remove her leg she squeezed his hand, shook her head and indicated that she did not want the doctors to touch her.
Von Anhalt also indicated that her health is deteriorating and repeatedly mentioned that she may have another one or two years to live.
He said that his wife is not really speaking or aware of her situation.
"She doesn't really know what's going on. She is very scared. She doesn't know it's her home but that it's a different environment."
"She doesn't want to suffer any more and I don't want her to suffer any more. But she is happier."
Gabor, a sex symbol in the 1950s and 1960s, has had to use a wheelchair after being partially paralyzed in a 2002 car accident.
