Natalie Portman is poised to be the leading character in the upcoming film, 'Gravity,' replacing megastar Angelina Jolie, who backed out of the production.
Portman's high-profile performance in the 'Black Swan,' which is receiving Oscar buzz from critics, catapaulted her to the top of the list of potential replacements for Jolie. Other actresses reportedly considered were Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson and Sienna Miller.
The sci-fi film, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, will also feature Robert Downey Jr.
Production of the film is scheduled to start in early 2011.
