Jay Leno Hollywood's No. 1 'Boob'? (VIDEO)

April 28, 2010

Jay Leno may be Hollywood's most popular "boob," according to rival late-night talk show host David Letterman.

See Jay Leno get roasted by Jimmy Kimmell here.

Leno's star fell after a high-profile celebrity dispute with Conan O'Brien and NBC. Leno a year ago moved his 11:30 p.m. show to 10 p.m. O'Brien replaced him at 11:30. When Leno's show tanked in the ratings, NBC moved him back to 11:30 p.m., and O'Brien, who has a large following of younger viewers was bumped off the network. Now he is headed to TBS this fall.

Letterman, who also feuded with Leno in the early 1990s as they both vied for the 11:30 p.m. slot, is making jokes about the comedian again.

"He's a complete boob. He can't help himself," Letterman said on his show Tuesday night.
Despite the jokes, Leno still is No. 1 in the late-night, 11:30 p.m. ratings.

... and the show was exactly that -- a disappointment. Under Leno, the Tonight Show was #! for 10+ years, while under Conan the ratings tanked -- naturally NBC wanted a way to get Jay back into the fold by bumping Conan up a half hour. The rest is history as we know it. This article makes the reader believe that Jay wields more power than he does, and that he somehow orchestrated all of this. Sure, the Jay Leno show lost ratings, but it was destined to fail -- Conan unjustly inherited a #1 show and failed to maintain the popularity set forth by Leno.

This article humorously puts the blame on Leno completely for the mishap, and makes him seem like he is pulling the strings at NBC -- as if he was the CEO/CFO or something! The first distinction I'd like to clear up after reading this article is that CONAN's ratings were low as well, which is the likely reason they wanted to bump Conan to midnight and Leno back to 11:30. NBC forced Jay out, so any notion giving Jay more power than he actually has is faulty logic. Jay was told to give up the show in 2004, and when it came time for Jay to leave, NBC didn't want him to hurt them on another network. So the solution was experiment with a new show at the 10pm time slot, with Jay being the guinea pig -- Jay and many insiders felt that the show would be a huge disappointment ...

Conan is a great guy. He was not bringing in the ratings so NBC wanted to change his time slot. He wouldn't do it. Jay is back where he belongs, beating conan's ratings AND Letterman's. Leno is well respected as a gentleman, and a master at his craft. The # 1 Boob is Letterman, whining and making a fool out of himself time after time.
