American Idol Adam Lambert's greatest strength has always been his ability to perform live.
That's why Adam Lambert's performance of "Sleepwalker" on "The Tonight Show," with Jay Leno on Tuesday night served as a refreshing reminder of the young man's talent and potential.
Adam Lambert has performed more than a dozen times on live TV since leaving American Idol last year, but with the exception of the American Music Awards, most of his performances have been good, but not great. He's been a bit shell-shocked, playing it safe, since the media backlash to his edgy AMA performance.
Part of the problem was his first single, "Whataya Want From Me," a catchy tune, but not exactly a hard rock song.
But with "Sleepwalker," Lambert awoke from his malaise and, as American Idol's Randy Jackson would say, "slayed it."
Lambert revived his famous vocal wail halfway through the song, performed with intensity, and owned the stage.
It's not easy to overshadow the magnetic Sarah Palin, who was also on the show, but Lambert did, and clearly Jay Leno is a fan.
The ending line of his song could serve as some good advice: "Let me out of this dream."
An unleashed, uncensored and unrestrained Adam Lambert is what his fans want, and expect.

Good grief, this writer, he can read my mind!! I swear, if I could write, I'd be saying the same words..
Ahhhh.....that performance of Sleepwalker was my absolute favorite of all his live performances! I know, that's hard to say. Because they all have been great and he always offers us something new. But good gawd, he looked hot, his vocals were out of this world. There isn't another male artist, at present or maybe ever (for me personally) who can tear it up like that.....LIVE...I mean, come on!
My God, I would love to see him do this performance when he visits the Idol stage this year. Can you imagine what the remaining contestants would be thinking????

Adam was nervous at the AMA's and yes the world was not ready for that particular moment but he did say that he was caught up in the moment'' at the AMA's and maybe should not have gone so far. We love him for that because he is os down to earth. I hope that people will see past that event and see him for the true talent he is. lots of love Adam. We wish you all success and the recognition youdeserve. You are alright in our book even if you forget yourself some times :> Love from Australia

I agree 110% with Vickie! Except for the AMA performance, Adam has NAILED every live performance, both before and since then! Saw him live in Indio at Fantasy Springs and his live act is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Just totally incredible...spectacular, fill-in-the-blank awesome adjective! Never seen or heard anything that compares...and that's saying a LOT! Been attending concerts since the 60's....lived over 20 years in Vegas, seen a LOT....Adam is THE best, hands down! A MUST SEE event of a lifetime. Seriously. And no, that's not even "over the top"...that's a mild review and an honest one. Thanks, "Q"

Sorry but have to totally disagree with this article. Are you sure you've watched any of Adam's performances since Idol? Because it doesn't seem like it. I agree about the AMA's, his vocals were off, but the rest have been outstanding. He's performed on SYTYCD, Morning Show, Leno, twice, David Letterman, & several others, & he's brought something new & different to every one. He's one of the most exciting performers out there today, because he never does the same thing twice even with the same song and ALWAYS gives 110% whether he's rockin out or doing a low key acoustic performance. To say he's held back is ridiculous It shows that you have no concept of Adams complex nature & talent. But then you described Sarah Palin as "magnetic".HA! what a joke! "moronic" is more like it!

Very spot on, I agree 100%, his post AMA performances were very low key and part was the song of course but also I think he was being told to go on these daytime slots and tone it down to show he's not so scary. But then his true talent and charisma did not shine through either. But this was a rockin performance and actually better than the album version which is overproduced and does not let the vocals stand out as much as they can or should. AT least his fun outragousness is starting to show through again, he certainly has been willing to let his freak flag fly a little higher iwth his outfits too, in this show and at a couple of recent concerts, including his solo show in Palm Springs. As for outshining others on the show, well he does that no matter who it is!

I loved Adam performance on The Tonight Show, he sounded great, made the song even better than on the CD, Its good that Leno realizes what a huge talent Adam is. I feel like crying when I see american idol because Adam made it worth watching Last season.

Seriously?!!!!! "The magnetic Sarah Palin." Adam Lambert or Sean White could have just stood there and been more magnetic than Sarah Palin, who is just plain annoying and phoney. The "comedy" skit she did was ridiculous, NOT funny in the least. Sean White was authentic, sweet, and funny, and Adam, as always, was indescribably delicious, beyond phenomenal. Too bad so much time was wasted on Sarah Palin -YAWN!

Adam's performance of "Sleepwalker " was magnificent. His live show at Fantasy Springs last week-end had all 3500 people cheering like mad-magnificent outstanding singing/stage performance. Just wonderful.
Since Adam is on a promotional tour -I hope he has lots of interviews,so the info gets out about his ablbum, not only for him, but for all the greats who worked ont the album with him and have high expectations from him. His band too is great and needs paid. These pormotional tours are important and the more successful he is, the more we get to see of him.

I don't know if I would call it playing it safe. Check out the performance of Whatya Want From Me when he was on So You Think You Can Dance. Listen carefully and you can hear that uptight judge (i forget his name) make a comment in the background. I think Adam's performance on that show might have been a little too racy for him. But aside from that...in numerous interviews he stated he acts out the lyrics to the song. The lyrics to For Your Entertainment are super sexual and that's what he acted out. Whatya Want From Me is not a wailing rock song. I like SleepWalker because it shows off the rock sound. But then again I like the other song too. A good CD has a variety of songs and styles to it from up tempo to ballads. As his CD does.

You Nailed it also with your article. It's the best Adam since AI, and I can't get enough of that performance. He loosened up with his voice and wailed. I've been waiting for that. I want to tell him that his fans love that voice and those free performances. He doesn't have to have fancy staging. Just do your thing Adam. So happy that Jay Leno appreciates and is supporting Adam's talent. Thank you Jay. And thank you for your keen article. Perfect.

Looks like the tide is turning finally! So good to read positive articles about Adam because this mans talent is unsurpassed! His vocals are incredible and I love Sleepwalker and was soooo happy when he sang that particular song on Leno. Even Jay said it was his favorite! Just what we needed to get others on board. Not to mention all the love he is getting from his aussie fans! Woot!!
