Quadruple Witching Hits Wall Street (Definition Here)

March 19, 2010

By Joshua Molina, HispanicBusiness.com

Quadruple witching helped lift markets today, but not enough end the day up.
Quadruple witching, which happens four times a year in four separate quarters, does not refer to four people on a broomsick.
Quadruple Witching is the day when contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, stock options and single stock futures (SSF) all expire.
Sometimes these conditions force the market and individual stock performances to swing dramatically in a positive direction because of the confluence of these events. Today not so much.
