Proponents of a health bill received good news today from Rep. John Boccieri, (D-Ohio), who switched his position on the bill and said he'd vote for it, even if it cost him his job.
Boccieri said he was largely inspired by the story President Obama shared of Natoma Canfield, the self-employed cleaning person who was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and was forced to drop her health insurance because it became too expensive.
He said it reminded him of his mother's bout with breast cancer.
"I want my mom to know that I'm standing up today and doing what I believe is right," he said, according to the Washington Post.
Boccieri said he was also heartened by a report from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office saying the $940 billion bill would draw down the deficit.
Earlier this week, Democrats received more good news from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, which reversed its opposition to the Senate bill.
