Pau Gasol, star forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, had an unusual run-in this week with a pair of paparazzi from his native Spain.

While driving around in Redondo Beach near Los Angeles, Gasol noticed he was being followed by an unfamiliar car he assumed must belong to a paparazzi outfit, according to the L.A. Times.

But when the occupants of the car neglected to take photos, he grew concerned and called a Lakers security guard, who advised the 7-foot-tall 29-year-old to drive to the Redondo Beach Police Station.

He did as he was told, and described the vehicle. When officers found the car nearby, they learned that the stalkers were paparazzi after all, who were holding out for a prime photo op.

What they wanted, the Times reports, was a shot of Gasol with his girlfriend, Silvia Lopez Castro, a member of the traveling Dream Cheers squad.
