In Reversal, House Hispanics Pledge Support for Senate Health Bill

Hispanics in the House of Representatives today announced their full support of the Senate Health bill, removing a potential barrier to the bill's passage, and reversing their earlier stance.

But the nation's largest Hispanic advocacy organization -- the National Council of La Raza -- maintains its opposition.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus had earlier voiced its opposition to the Senate's version of the bill, mostly on the basis that it would bar illegal immigrants from purchasing -- with their own money -- health insurance on the exchanges established by the legislation.

As late as March 12, Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., pledged to vote no on the Senate version.

"If we bar the immigrant community from buying private insurance with their own money, we relegate them to emergency room care at the highest cost to taxpayers and deny them the important opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to a healthier America," he said in a statement.

But today, the Caucus pledged unanimous support.

Gutierrez said he'd received assurances from President Obama that immigration reform will soon be addressed. And Rep. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., said the Senate bill would insure 8.8 million -- or about half --of the nation's uninsured Hispanics. Because of this, she said it outweighs the concerns about illegal immigrants, the Washington Post
reports.

Meanwhile, NCLR said the Senate bill does not ensure access to coverage for "vulnerable, eligible families and children."

"[NCLR] believes in supporting efforts that address the concerns; the House bill did this, the Senate bill did not," Jennifer Ng'andu, Deputy Director of the Health Policy Project, told the
Huffington Post. "We supported the House bill. It contained rigorous safeguards that would extend access to health care to all U.S. residents while preventing unauthorized workers from receiving taxpayer-funded subsidies."

I am sad to see that lack of common sense knows no ethnic boundaries. Do the Hispanic congresspeople run their family finances in any way similar to this obscene "healthcare" bill? And do they approve of all the murky and unconstitutional and Chicago-style thuggery moves being used by the White House and its stooges in the Senate and the House? We absolutely need changes in healthcare insurance and delivery. However, this bill by charlatans and Saul Alinsky-inspired leftists is NOT the vehicle. ¡Despiértense, delegados! ¿No les da vergüenza portarse de esta manera?

Amnesty = racism According to the DHS and La Raza, almost all foreigners in this country illegally are Hispanic. Why should lawbreaking Hispanics have preferential immigration treatment over law abiding people of all races? Why should Hispanic Americans have a greater right to family reunification with their law breaking relatives, in terms of numbers allowed in, timing of arrival, and conditions of entry, than Americans of all other races and ethnic groups have for for their law abiding relative trying to immigrate here? ID theft, document fraud, tax evasion = all felonies The amnesty bill provides immunity from criminal prosecution for those crimes... for illegal immigrants only! If Americans commits those acts, they go to jail . No one in America is above the law.

Talk about the ultimate double whammy! First sky high taxes for health care then soon to follow amnesty for all. You can say good buy to the United States as you once knew it. This country will be a 3rd world nation in the next 5 to 10 years. Mark my words.

It is outregeous that the Hispanic members of Congress would support the disaster that is Obama care. However their position once again reflects that these people, are nothing more than left wing fanatics, bent on destroying our society as we know it. They don't care what such ill conceived legislation will do to this great country of ours. All they want is to get the "illegals" in, so they can try to retian power and the country be dammed. They all should be tried fo hight treason and after conviction, dealt with as the law mandates. It is time that the true Hispanic patriots of this nation stand up and let their voices be heard in clear and loud tones. Say no to Obama care. Say no to inmigration reform. Lets make sure Obama fails.
