In a scene straight out of Indiana Jones, Reuters reports that Egyptian archaeologists have discovered an enormous 3,400-year old monkey statue in Luxor. According to a statement issued by Egypt's Antiquity Chief, Zahi Hawass, the thirteen-foot tall statue depicts Thoth, the god of wisdom.

Also found was a statue depicting the head of Amenhotep III, Tutankhamun's grandfather, who ruled from 1387-1348 B.C. According to the Associated Press, the head stands approximately as tall as a person.

Both red granite statues were found at Amenhotep III's funerary temple, in the southern temple city of Luxor, on the west bank of the Nile.
