Why is it that we only hear about those in support of Chavez and that point of view? Where are the voices of those that don’t? Why is it we don’t hear of those that disappear for speaking out against him? Democracy is freedom of political expression, freedom of speech and freedom of the press. In any Democracy the voices of those who may not agree with the current political party should also be heard. When people use phases or terms as fools and uneducated morons; the meaning of their message is lost. It amazes me how people resort to derogatory comments. These types of comments only distract from any message or view being expressed.

what do you expect from an imbecile like S. Penn, he should move to Venezuela as a normal person not a so call "star" (not a good one), I am latin and have been to Venezuela several times to see the treatment and how scared citizens are to say anything out of line because you do not know if a Chavista is listening and next you will be in jail - no Chavez has not WON elections legally - have been there and seen what happens after the elections - S.Penn have you been there? If you as a citizen of Venezuela speak against ignorant Chavez you may never work again as you are B/B from working. S. Penn go to Caracas and see what is going on - how Chavistas have burned the main university in the last couple of days. I am proud to be an America and live in a free country.

Must people could judge the brain of bad actor Penn, but watching his defense of the abominable Chavez, is kind of awesome....it was money, or just stupidity behind his bad decision of defending the indefensible tyrane and discipule of Castro...?

I can see that most of the comments ridiculing Sean Penn for defending Chavez come from right-wing morons or from uneducated morons who know nothing about world events, and get their news from suh brilliant as the Moron rush limbaugh or the Moron glen beck and others of the same ilk.
Hugo Chavez was democratically elected by the Venezuelan people to serve them, not the bankers or the greedy rich. The u.s. started calling him a dictator because he won't bow down to us and is a friend of Castro and Cuba , who is unjustly enbargoed by the u.s.because they are ' Communists ", yet they embraaace the communist governments of China and Vietnam. becaus they can make money from them. I applaud Penn and I applaud Chavez. I have freedom of speech and I intend to speak out on any issue. linomartinez1

I agree that the US is not perfect but just because someone agrees with your point of view does not mean they have a clue. For someone to say they love their country and say things like, this is the best democracy money can buy doesn’t have a clue. These are the same people that enjoy the freedoms and opportunities living here in the US that they wouldn’t enjoy living in any of the countries they often defend. If they love their country so much where are their comments when Hugo Chavez makes derogatory comments about the US and its people? I Have friends and family in Venezuela and think Maripyt has no clue and must believe Venezuela is perfect. That must be the country they love.

Yearly more people want to immigrate to the US for its freedoms and opportunities. This country has suffered and prospered under any of the political parties in office. What I appreciate about this country is the freedom to change who runs the country. For those who are discontented (whether natural or emigrant) with the US and its political system should MOVE to what ever country they feel has a better system. Napti your right the previous administration had 8 ELECTED years. Napti what is the difference between the previous administration and the current? They all have their own agendas passing them off as those of the people. If the agendas of whatever party was in office were put out for a vote, then we would see what people are for.

Mr Penn, Mr Glover and Mr Stone, you have let me down. I will now boicott your movies. You have no idea what you are talking about. You have to live in Venezuela and hear your family tell you what they go through everyday of their lives to know that what is going on there is not "fair and square" And by the way have you not noticed that Mr. Chavez considers our country the enemy, the imperialist country who wants to take over Latin America? Why is he your friend?

Yes Hugo Chavez has let the crime rate go sky high not like America who barely has any crime. We have 7 prisons in my county in California, and they are mostly empty maybe Hugo could send us new inmates so the guards could have something to do except play cards and collect huge checks. Wait, the next County also has two Federal prisons and a new airport to bring the prisoners in, that would be great for Chavez, as I know, that they are empty too, you can never be too unprepared. We are so good and our crime rate is so small, it makes me jiggy.

Please, Sean, do us all a favor and move to Venezuela and take your loonie leftist friendswith you. You won't be missed. Maybe you can kick and hit photographers in that country and get away with it. Shame on you!I Yes,we have the freedom to dissent but if you really hate this country, leave it. All of you. Maybe you will take up for the rights of the oppressed Venezuelan people. Things are not as good as they seem. At least in America you can say what you want.

sean penn, oliver stone and danny glover glover should move to Venezuela. Its easy to preach about Socialism living in a rich country like the United States. They should move to Cuba or Venezuela and see the reality of the matter. ChaveZ support Left wing militant groups such as The FARC in Colombia. Groups thar murders and kidnap civilians for profit.

all those who comment on Hugo Chavez only know what conglomerate America has fed you. Please dont act like America is so perfect and free from injustice! Please! I can spew tons of injustices that this country does daily. you go Sean for coming to your own conclusions likely not based on what the individualistic, consumer driven media has reported. You think this is untrue? Do your homework and see for yourself.
By the way I love my country, thats why I give a sh*t and am outraged by our government. You should be too. GET A CLUE
Oh and dont forget: this is the best democracy money can buy!!!!

Sean Penn is certainly a Hugo Chavez supporter, However I wish he were as much a supporter of freedom of speech. Saying that certain people should be "jailed" for "calling" Hugo Chavez a dictator. I guess freedom of expression should only be for people that agree with Sean Penn.

Interesting... While Mr. Penn has made his "American Dream" come true within the Free Enterprise system (the "Empire" as President Chavez calls it), he is free to have his opinions heard. But really... who cares... why are we subjected to lend an ear to members of the entertainment industry anyway, as if they had a clue what it is like to live day after day in a place like Chavelandia (Venezuela) - Shortages, no electricity, crime... His comment that "... journalists who refer to Chavez as a dictator should be jailed..." clearly provides a glimpse at to the level of Mr. Penn's inteligence... He proposes something which occurs in totalitarian regimes... (did he really mean to say that...?) Get a grip, Mr. Penn... Perhaps you are suffering from electrical shortages in your brain...!!!

Sean Penn is a reprobate. What else can anyone expect him to defend but low lifes. I venture to say he is probably a Fidel Castro fan also. I rest my case.

thanking americans is good, but i believe if your not hispanic you should no try to opiniate or try to resolve the govermental structure of latin america. I believe the reason why the governments of latin america has problems is because forein investors try to exploit the land and people without concern for the people or culture. as a hispanic male my wish is for hugo chavez to succedd and not depend on foreigners, specially united states.
