Adam Lambert may have ruined American Idol. Even the most hardcore Idol fans feel a sense of let down with this year's crop of average singers.
A year ago this week Lambert tore the house down with his version of "Black or White".
This year, some of the Idol contestants are good, but no one - no one - can touch Adam Lambert.
Regardless of whether one likes Adam Lambert, it's safe to say that his stage presence and live performances blow away everyone on the Idol stage this season.
It's not even close. It's like the show's moving in slow motion without him.
Last season, Lambert elevated other average singers looking to keep pace with him. Kris Allen, the show's eventual winner, got better every week, largely because he was trying to keep pace.
Maybe Paula Abdul knew something when she left the show. Maybe Simon Cowell knows something now.
A guy by the name of Alex Lambert was eliminated from the show last night. Similarities to the true Lambert? Zero.
Adam Lambert left the show long ago.
And by the looks and sound of it, American Idol will never be the same.
He's still knocking 'em dead, by the way. Check out this performance of "Sleepwalker" from two weeks ago.

I agree with everyone that posted. I watch a few minutes of AI but there is no comparison to Adam Lambert. AI is so so boring now. Knowing that Adam is not there, Paula is gone and Simon is leaving just makes me no longer interested. Adam Lambert was a once in a lifetime deal, nobody can ever compare.

I kinda agree with that article...No offense meant but season 9 is absolutely boring...I guess m looking for someone like Adam Lambert wko keeps me glued on the TV every time he performs..i feel d same way about David Cook also...they r both phenomenal but Adam Lambert is a league of his own...I change channel now wen i see some of the Season 9 contestants perform 'coz i can't force myself to watch their performance...what a far cry from last year and d year before that....

I saw Adam perform live on the AI tour and again at his solo gig and no one comes close to how great he is. His performance of his own songs live is unbeatable=pure magic stage charismaand his voice and the sound of the instruments live- truly the only real entertainer form all seasons put togethe. Adam puts on a show, start to finish, and his singing is gorgeous.

What a great story about Adam! I think you're right about 'Idol' never being the same again. Adam just has 'it' all. That 'it' factor doesn't come along very often, and we are all so lucky to have witnessed 'The Year of Adam Lambert'. The years ahead of us are going to be so exciting to watch. He just keeps geting better, and better! There is one contestant this year that I do like, however, and thats Casey.

Absolutely agree. This year is beyond boring, no one really stands out, except Crystal, and for voice only. You couldn't wait to get home and see what Adam was going to perform that week. This year, I'm barely watching it.

I have tried my best to get into season 9. The talent is extremly average this year. I've tuned in a few times. Once I caught Alex Lambert and found him looking like a deer caught in the headlights. His voice was average. Then I caught Casey a Bo Bice type of guy. Again average. The problem is I was used to seeing average on the show. When you are used to average you accept it. But Adam Lambert brought something totally different to the show. He brought performance and a unique vocal range and a unique style. Remember a year ago? All everyone talked about was "What will Adam Lambert do next next". Every idol on the show commented how Adam coached them and gave them advice. I find idol way too boring to watch. I'm waiting for Dancing with the stars.

I was stunned Adam did not win. Kris is a nice guy but something funny was afoot. You must give Crystal Bowersocks a bit of credit thought. She is not Adam, no one is Adam llets face it. She is pretty special though so support her. Adam changed the face of Idol and I mjust say I will never view the program in the same regard again. I still keep up on how he is going fron half way around the word because he is such a great person. Wish you all the best Crystal but love Adam the most.
Cheers

Adam is so OUT–OF-THIS- WORLD-TALENTED than he broke the IDOL. The show will die not necessary because they cannot find another Adam; this is understandable, it is very possible they will never find. The bar that Adam set is way too high not only for American Idol contestants but for most of current contemporary artists. Adam is a genius of art.
What turned the people down is the fact that Adam did not win. THE SHOW LOST ALL IT”S CREDIBILITY.

You're right on target...especially about Adam elevating Kris' (and Allison's) performances. I rewatched all of Adam's early performances to compare with this year's crop of talent. It's like a Broadway show compared to a high school production. And the four that were eiminated this week will DEFINITELY make the show a lot less interesting...especially Lilly and Todrick.
AI without Adam Lambert is Ambien Idol.

You too the words right out of my mouth. I still watch but the comparisons to ADAM Lambert started during audition week and didn't get any better as the show progressed. ALEX Lambert? No thank you. I'm not crying that he was cut at all. The dude was mediocre at best. It's weird to think that an amazing singer can destroy a landmark television program but Adam did just that! Even though it made me snicker at the time I don't think Paula was that far off the mark when she called him "iconic". There's something about him that demands to be noticed. An unapologetic star quality and a voice above and beyond any male singer performing today. This years crop of contestants seem amateurish and boring. I can't wait until Lambert performs on Idol and steals the show once again!

Idol struggles to recover after last season. Adam Lambert, with his once-in-a-lifetime voice and showmanship, always left us wanting more Adam. And we still do.

I completely agree. Every time my husband and I watch a new episode it is so depressing we have to go back and watch a little AI Season 8 to feel good again. Adam Lambert elevated the program to another level, and the chemistry and talent of the top 12 (or 13) was fantastic from the beginning. No one even comes close this season. Thank goodness for the DVR so that I can fast forward where necessary, and thank goodness for youtube so that I can follow Adam Lambert's amazing performances where he is always amazing, original, and perfect. ! AI is never going to be the same again.
