MIAMI, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- The Alliance for Digital Equality (ADE), a non-partisan not-for-profit organization that seeks to close the technological gap between underserved ethnic and minority communities in the United States and the market of advanced Technologies, has made an extraordinary donation of 50 computers to the Maya Angelou primary school in Allapattah. The donation was delivered by Julius Hollis, Chairman of the Board of ADE, and the nation's favorite radio personality, Tom Joyner, "The Fly Jock". Among the guests present were Alberto M. Carvalho, Superintendent of Public Schools for Miami-Dade County, School Board members Dr. Solomon Stinson of District 2 and Renier D\xEDaz of Portilla/District 5, elected officials, and local business leaders.
The school received fifty (50) Hewlett Packard Compaq DC5750 computers fully equipped with Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Athlon 64 X2 3800, 2.0GHz processors, 1GB of RAM, 80GB hard drives, DVD-ROM media units, DVI-VGA video cards, Microsoft XP and antivirus protection.
Due to the current economic conditions and cuts in the budget for education that have been felt all over the state, the students at the Maya Angelou school need these computers now more than ever as a tool to help them keep in step with new technological advances. Thanks to ADE, these students will have a chance to stay competitive and access the same information and opportunities as other children in the United States and the rest of the world.

In an effort to close the ever-widening "digital gap," ADE is becoming the leading voice in underserved communities on issues relating to technology as well as telecommunications reform and product awareness. Through the establishment of "digital empowerment councils" in cities with such diverse communities as Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, Charleston, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC and Los Angeles, citizens who actively participate can establish and implement policies concerning broadband initiatives, ensuring that people living in underserved communities can keep up with technological advances.
