Jay Leno may have gotten back his beloved Tonight Show, but it seems to have come at the hefty expense of his nice-guy image. Even his Thursday appearance on Oprah didn't stop detractors from accusing him of "whining." However, Leno has a defender in comedian Andy Borowitz.
Speaking on the CBS Early Show with Maggie Rodriguez today, Borowitz sympathized with Leno, saying Oprah's interview was "relentless."
"She was brutal. She was really, really tough on him," he said.
Borowitz said he agrees with Leno that Leno has been unfairly cast as a villain, and even threw in a quip about Conan O'Brien's credibility as an everyman.
"I think it's because Jay Leno seems to be the man, and we all want to stick it to the man. And Conan on the other hand, he stands for everybody who has ever been fired and gotten a check for $45 million."
Borowitz also joked about the ominous music that played on the Oprah show before the interview, saying it was the kind of soundtrack TV shows reserve for serial killers.
"He's just a comedian. Now maybe he's a little competitive and back-stabby, and maybe he wanted his old job back, (but) who wouldn't?" he said. "Most of us would want a job like that if you're in that business."
