Pat Robertson Blames Haiti's 'Deal With the Devil' for Earthquake

Jan. 13, 2010

Rob Kuznia -- HispanicBusiness.com

Televangelist Pat Robertson struck again with another outlandish quote today, saying on his widely watched Christian Broadcasting Network show that Haiti brought on this week's devastating earthquake by making a pact with the devil. During a fund-raising drive for relief efforts on his show, "The 700 Club," Robertson told co-host Kristi Watts said the Haitians many years ago made an agreement with the devil in order to be freed from French occupation. "True story. And so the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' They kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got themselves free. Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other." Haiti is by many accounts the poorest nation in the Americas. By way of evidence, Robertson noted that that Haiti's neighbor, the Dominican Republic, is prosperous. "That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle; on the one side is Haiti on the other is the Dominican Republic," he said. "Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable." Robertson is famous for his off-color musings that are every bit as wacky as they are insensitive. For instance, in 2005, he drew international criticism after calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. He also attributed the 9/11 attacks at least partially on America's tolerance for homosexuals and abortions.

Mr. Robertson you have time left to repent of your vengeful heart and hate-filled religiosity. You have seized upon this idea of "God's vengeance" and used it for your own self-serving ends. There is nothing - NOTHING- about God that asks us to judge one another. God is about love. All you do is alienate those persons who have already been victimized by "Christians" like you. Open your heart before you die and accept the love of God who loves us all. ALL.

god gives us a choice .. and he means it, we have to choose him to have eternity life. the end of human civilization is coming but theres no need to fear if you have god by your side. god repeats in the bible many times. (witch craft wll not be aloud through the gates of heaven) that means no voodoo, no card reading. god isnt responsible for all this disasters he said him self he would inprison the devil a thousnd years, then he would release the devil and we would have our choice, the devil will fool many to believe that he loves. the devil will completely destroy this earth and who ever doesnt have trust in god will spend eternity with the devil right here on the earth he destroyed. all followers of god willl spend an eternity of love and happieness and a feeling thats unexplainable

First of all, God is not an author of confusion. He tempeth no man, so therefor no man should make comments such as the one Robertson made, with out biblical facts to back it up. Roberts should make and apology to all Hatians and Christians around the world and hope that God don't curse him.

God knows all things and the plan is laid out. That does not mean that God singled out any particular body for some particular reason. We are living in the time of "The ten toes". I disagree with Pat and advise that he have someone explain the book of Daniel to him.. There is the mighty and strong and there is the broken and weak. Haiti is obviously the latter. They are not being punished Pat. Were the Chinese being punished when over 200,000 people died in the1920 earthquake, China again in 1976-255,000, USSR in 1988-25,000, Japan 1923-143,000 and 1995- 5,530 Alaska in 1946-200 the triggered a Tsunami that killed over 300, California 1906, 1933, 1999, 2003, I could go on. I don't think I heard Pat blaming those people for there alleged sins. Pat is a racist and that is all to it!.

The Bible tells us that "All things work together for the good, to them that love the Lord and are the called according to His purpose". It also tells us "What the devil means for evil, God has worked out for our good". Thus far, 100,000 lives have been lost. Let's praise God for those that will take this opportunity to get to know our Father and join with others to be the force of spiritual strength needed at this time. Like most rich people, Robertson pays top dollar to get his point of view and opinion to the masses. Jesus taught us " My sheep hear my voice, and another they will NOT follow." If it does not sound like the voice of Abba Father, DO NOT FOLLOW it.

Why don't people leave God out of a natural disaster. God had nothing to do with it neither the devil. What happens was a natural phenomena that was going to happen anyway. I(t is called an earthqauke and happens when stress builds on a fault line through many years. One day the rock will fracture and the earthquake happens.

To Think that so many innocent people have made this man so wealthy! Shows you his ignorance. He only uses his pulpit to polarize people.

So does this mean that Iowa and Missouri made a deal with the devil? They got hit with massive flooding last year. Did the trailer park south of here (in Indiana)? They got wiped out last spring by a tornado. Did Pat Robertson? He's ate up with some brain disease, that has to be a curse from God. Of course, we all know that those heathens in New York(9/11) and Miami (hurricanes-pick one) are Satan's children, along with most of the rest of the US that has suffered natural or man-caused tragedy at one time or another.

It's almost as troubling that self-proclaimed "christians" would actually attempt to explain away or ameliorate Robertson's foolhardy statements as it is that he could be so blindly arrogant as to pretend to know what's on God's mind as it relates to earthworms, let alone earthquakes. In Robertson's 16th century view of "christianity", God is little more than a cross between a vengeful bully with a long memory and the tooth fairy. Rather than simply express a genuine empathy and sympathy for those who are suffering, he avails himself to the opportunity of "teaching" the world about the nature of the Almighty. Never mind the handful of Haitians who may have actually done what Robertson said a couple hundred years ago. The idea that God would meet out an earthquake "punishment" is HIS.

As a christian...I do think God is in control and we are all part of a huge plan.....only God has the power to give and take and we have to trust in him. Instead of attacking anyone in this terrible time....I am praying that the People of Haiti pull together and be strong. I do believe that we have consequences to our actions. As far as the comments by Pat Robertson...he is simply stating what happened in history. It is hard to not have hard feelings during such devistation. That is where the Devil sits back and laughs because he knows that sadly people will question God and their faith. And then he starts to win...Again..I am praying for these people to find their loved ones and stay strong in the face of this horrific event.

its ironic that only haiti got hit by the earthquake and not Dominican republic isn't it...???? I believe that if Haiti made a deal with the devil that it has cursed them....the only thing us christians can do is pray that the deal made with the devil will be broken and pray for all those people from haiti will have a true encounter with God... im a young person and i believe that god can do anything and if we as christians join together in a prayer good can brake that curse

Everytime I hear a preacher blame God for a disastor I wonder if God feels insulted. Nobody likes to be blamed for something the didn't do. If someone falsely accused me of killing even one person it would make me irate. Is Pat Robertson falsely accusing God of killing 100,000 people?

I am a 75 year old convert to Roman Catholicism. If Pat Robertson was the first "Christian" that I ever met, I would reject Christianity out of hand. Robertson doesn't understand that Christ comes in many skin colors. Dei Colorus
