Katie Couric knows what she'S doing in launching her new Web-only interview show, @katiecouric, tonight. She's booked the hottest person in the media as her very first guest. An enigma of sorts that commands huge ratings of his own, who has been the subject of controversy and speculation, and who has just been on the cover of Time Magazine. That man, of course, is Glenn Beck.
Beck recently came under media scrutiny for calling President Barack Obama a racist. In light of those comments, it was especially compelling when Beck told Couric that " . . .I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama," and finished the quote with a self-satisfied " . . .how's that?"
Beck, branded as a conservative, but who could perhaps also be described as populist, came up through the ranks of AM talk radio, and still hosts a very popular syndicated radio show in addition to his program on Fox News. The somewhat emotionally volatile host has been known to cry on-air, to scream at callers, and to invoke his past as a drug addict and subsequent conversion to straight-edged, devout Mormon to tug on his audience's heart strings.
Beck also indicated that he would also have preferred Hillary Clinton over Senator McCain.
@katiecouric premieres tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
