Conference Board Indicates Online Jobs Rose in August

The Conference Board, a New York-based, non-profit business analysis firm, today reported an increase in online job postings for August.

The Conference Board's Help-Wanted OnLine Data Series indicated that online advertised vacancies rose by 169,000 in August, or a 5% overall increase. The current 3,464,800 total jobs advertised online represents a 300,000 increase since April 2009. To put this number in context, Gad Levanon, Senior Economist at The Conference Board, pointed out that there are currently about 11 million unemployed in the United States. However, Levanon said in a statement that the August increase "is good news, showing what we hope will be a continued improvement in job demand this fall." Levanon also indicated that the numbers fall in line with the Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index.
