TMZ is reporting that ousted Miss California USA Carrie Prejean has filed suit in L.A. County Superior Court against members of the contest's governing body, claiming religious discrimination.
Prejean lost her crown on June 10M, under the premise that she failed to appear at more than 30 required events. Now she has specifically named Shanna Moakler, a model, actress, and former Miss USA, and Keith Lewis, head of the pageant, in the legal action. According to TMZ, Prejean is specifically claiming "religious discrimination, defamation, public disclosure of private facts, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress."
Prejean was thrust into the national spotlight when the openly gay Perez Hilton, in his role as a judge at the Miss USA pageant, asked the then-Miss California USA what her views on gay marriage were during the Q&A phase of the competition. The "Queen of All Media" took exception to Prejean's stance against such unions. The ensuing public statements from both camps escalated the issue onto the national scene, and, in fact, made Prejean a household name. She has since done a guest stint on Fox News and signed a publishing contract.
