Talk about a Hollywood moment.
The bases are loaded. The L.A. Dodgers and Cincinnatti Reds are tied 2-2 in the sixth. Manny Ramirez -- who recently finished serving a 50-game suspension for juicing -- is on the bench recovering from an injured hand. Oh, and it's "Manny Ramirez bobblehead day" at Dodger stadium.
Manager Joe Torre sends Ramirez to the plate, and Ramirez knocks the ball out of the park -- a grand slam. The Wednesday night bleacher blast was his 538th career homerun, and 21st career grand slam, putting him two behind the record set by slugger Lou Gherig.
After rounding the bases, Ramirez humored the roaring crowd with two curtain calls, and by doing his best impression of a bobblehead, the LA Times reports .
After the game, which the Dodgers won 6-2, a mellow Ramirez patiently fielded a slew of questions from a scrum of fawning reporters. Some of the questions bordered on ridiculous.
("How do you think the bobblehead looks like -- do you think it looks like you?")
Ramirez said the grand slam was one of the finest moments of his career.
"I'm just happy that it happened here in L.A.," he said. "I was just trying to relax and get a good pitch to hit."
Earlier this week, Ramirez's career homerun count surpassed that of Mickey Mantle, putting him in 15th place on the league's list of all-time top homerun hitters.
