Brock Lesnar's Apology to UFC and Fans Highlights WWE Transition Growing Pains

July 13, 2009

Joshua Molina--HispanicBusiness.com

After turning UFC 100 into an embarrassing post-fight spectacle, UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar issued a public apology to UFC president Dana White, the fans and Budweiser.

After Lesnar, a former WWE champion, pummeled Frank Mir to retain his UFC championship, Lesnar, pranced around the cage, delivering obscene gestures to the crowd.

He also apologized for making disparaging remarks about Budweiser, one of UFC's sponsors.

Lesnar's post-fight meltdown was particularly upsetting to UFC brass because the company is trying to battle for mainstream legitimacy. UFC 100 was expected to be one of the largest pay-per-events in history, and UFC officials may worry that Lesnar has tainted the product.

Lesnar is used to showmanship and over the top theatrics. He spent three years working for Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Lesnar is blight to the sport of MMA. MMA did not need this type of fan base to grow. GSP is the type of champion the sport deserves. Lesnar is a side show freak. His quick and unjustifiable rise to champion left little tape for people to study on him. But after a few more fights -- real MMA fighters will solved the riddle of how to handle him.
