PETA has sent out the swat team after the commander in chief used his hand to slap a fly dead during a White House interview, an incident captured on tape. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it wished President Obama had set a better example rather than killing the housefly buzzing around him during the interview Tuesday with CNBC correspondent John Harwood. "We support compassion for even the smallest animals," said Bruce Friedrich, vice president for policy at PETA, according to ABC News. "We support giving insects the benefit of the doubt." After eliminating the fly, Obama said to Harwood: "Now, where were we?" and added, "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker." Friedrich reportedly said that while PETA was pleased with the president's past record in support of animal rights issues, the group wished he hadn't killed the housefly. On Wednesday, PETA sent a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher to Obama. An ad for the $8 product on PETA's Web site says that if you're the kind of person who wouldn't hurt a fly, the Katcha Bug is for you. The device is placed over the bug and a plastic trap door slides shut. After carrying the bug outside, the door can be opened and the fly released. No word from the White House on whether Obama will be using it.
