Barbara Boxer Asks General to Get Specific: 'Could You Say Senator Instead of Ma'am?'

June 18, 2009

barabra boxer, asks general, say senator, video

Address her majesty senator by the title, or get your ears boxed. That's the lesson learned by Brigadier General Michael Walsh during a Wednesday senate committee hearing, where he was upbraided by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) for addressing her as "Ma'am" instead of "Senator." The hearing was an update before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works -- which Boxer chairs -- on the status of the delayed rebuilding of the levees in New Orleans destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. As Walsh began to respond to one of her questions, an exasperated Boxer cut him off. "You know, do me a favor," she interrupted. "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?'" "Yes, ma'am," Walsh answered. "It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, yes, thank you," Boxer added. "Yes, senator," he said. Conservative commentators and bloggers are having a heyday with Boxer's testy demand for respect. California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine), who is running for Boxer's California Senate seat himself in 2010, characterized her comments as a "liberal-military confrontation." DeVore further wrote that: "According to the U.S. Army's own guide to protocol, Members of the U.S. Senate should be verbally addressed as 'Sir,' 'Ma'am' or 'Senator.'" Many other right-leaning writers are criticizing the incident as well. Bryan McAffee at Right Pundits characterized the exchange as "small minded" and "petty," while at Hot Air, the Junior Senator from California was referred to as "Snotty." Decide for yourself -- video of the incident follows.

Are the elitist liberals vying for dunce of the year among themselves? It seems Reid, Pelosi and Boxer have a fierce competition going? He does more in a day to protect our country while she does her best to destroy it. With any luck, she would be an ex-senator soon!! The country will be better with out her and her snotty, petty attitude. Good riddance to to her and her stupidity.

It is clear from Senator Boxer's disrespect to General Walsh that she has contempt for our service members. In the military you don't treat a private the way she treated a general officer. I am sure she kisses the military's posterior when it is politically expedient. Every veteran and member of the military should understand the Senator is not their friend. As a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, I urge you to take decisive political action against her. You don't have to be liberal, conservative, independent, Republican or Democrat; just a good and decent American with high regards for our service members.

we Americans had better take a long hard look at what is going on in this administration. They are out of control. The arrogance of these who were "voted into office to service the people" is surfing more and more. Members of this party have actually referred to Obama as "God". As we get closer to 2010 election, they will be asking for our votes again. At that time, they will be promising every thing. Do not be fooled. Do not forget. Do not forget Polosi's lying about the CIA, Feinstein's nepotism, and Hillary's flip-flops. Do you really want another four years of deceit? I for one will be looking at a third party for my vote. At this time, neither party deserves my vote.

Congratulations, with one oral discharge, Boxer, youve creatively amplified the dumbing, numbing of the post flushing sound governance our society is experiencing.

"Ma'am" is the highest form of respect. It is the proper way to address the Queen of England. It comes from the French "Ma Dame" (My Lady). Being a lady is preferable to being a senator, given the convicted criminals in the Congress. And didn't the general "work for HIS title"? What an insecure, egocentric bitch Boxer is. Anyone who goes out of her way to take offense is pathetic. She wasn't demanding respect, but obeisance from a lesser being (in her opinion). By the way, aren't the Democrats supposed to be the party of EQUALITY? Of Spread-the-Wealth? Except SOME are more equal than others! God save us from such dictatorial know-it-all egotists.

I have a name I'd like to call Barbara Boxer but it is not fit to print. It is disgraceful the way this snob (Barbara Boxer) demeaned a the General. It was petty and mean. Perhaps Barbara should remember that the General also worked hard for his title, fighting for her freedom to be a Senator.

Did Ms. Boxer address the Brig. General by his title? I am such he worked much harder, made more sacrifices, took greater risks than the lady from California. If my memory serves me correctly, Ma"am is a perfectly respectable and acceptable term to use..

What a JERK!! She has to be the biggest embarassment in the senate with the exception of Reid. Anyone that can walk and chew gum is better qualified to be a senator than Boxer. Hopefully the people of CA will wise up and rectify the situation.
