TMZ: Carrie Prejean No Longer Miss California USA

June 10, 2009

Carrie Prejean lost her crown as Miss California USA on Wednesday, June 10 after failing to appear at more than 30 events she was required to attend, according to TMZ. The celebrity gossip Web site reported that Donald Trump, the owner of Miss USA, fired Prejean not only because she had violated her pageant contract with her no-shows but also because she had sent pageant officials emails expressing her contempt for them.

Prejean made headlines when she lost the Miss USA pageant--she came in second to Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton--after celebrity blogger, and openly gay, Perez Hilton asked Prejean her stance on same sex unions and Prejean responded that she was against them. Her anti-gay comments became the start of an even bigger scandal as several pageant officials resigned and scandalous pictures of a 17-year-old Prejean surfaced.

TMZ's reporting emphasizes that Trump's removal of Prejean's title is not because of her political opinions.
