American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert said Thursday that he will not join classic rock band Queen and replace its iconic front man Freddie Mercury.

Lambert, the wildly popular glam rocker who dazzled the audience during this season's American Idol, appeared on NBC's Today Show this morning to dispel the rumors that he was ready to join the British band.

"I would love to sing with them anytime," said Lambert, who also performed his moody version of "Mad World" in Rockefeller Plaza. "That would be awesome but right now I am going to focus on my own recording career."

Lambert also addressed the Idol voting controversy that suggested winner Kris Allen may have had an unfair voting advantage that affected the show's outcome. One of the show's lead sponsors, AT&T helped Allen fans mass text their votes at a few house parties in Arkansas, where Allen resides.

Lambert took the high road and said there was no controversy or scandal and that he was focused on his future.

"People need to relax," Lambert said.
