The Small Business Administration named Ana Harvey as the leader of the Office of Women's Business Ownership on April 30. Harvey will head the 112 Women's Business Centers located in nearly every state nationwide, which are used as the focal mechanism in the SBA's push to assist female-owned businesses.
The SBA estimated that in 2008 there were 7.2 million women-owned small businesses, which employed 7.3 million people and produced $1.1 trillion in sales. The Business Centers aim to train and assist women in business and technical needs as well as to provide them with an avenue to capital, government contracts, and other investment opportunities.
Harvey is an experienced entrepreneur herself and is no stranger to important leadership positions. She was recently appointed as the President of Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and in 2007 was named the CEO of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
