Bill Gates and Bill Clinton participated in this week's 12th annual Government Leaders Forum, which is billed as "a dynamic discussion platform for government, business and education leaders from across the Americas."
The three-day forum, which ended Thursday in Washington, D.C., centered on the Americas, featuring panelists from leaders of governments including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
On the event's last day, Puerto Rico Gov. Luis G Fortuno and Gates discussed Microsoft's continued economic commitment to the island, as well as how Microsoft can help the self-governing territory of the United States better utilize technology to enhance education and government efficiency, according to the online news site Topix.
"The company's commitment in Puerto Rico includes a $635 million contribution to the island's economy over the next four years through its four operations on the island: a sales, marketing and service office; a software replication plant; a software, digital distribution center and a soon to be inaugurated release lab," the article says.
In his presentation, Fortuno highlighted his plan to use technology to enhance government operations.
During the second day of the forum, former U.S. President Bill Clinton emphasized how technology leaders have a duty to use their clout to address problems such as AIDS and climate change, according to TechFlash, a Seattle-based online technology news site.
