The University of California, Berkeley is scheduled to host a new series of events titled "Growing Sustainability in a Low-Carbon World," which will examine California's climate change policies. Put on by the university's Institute for Urban and Regional Development, the program will focus on the more technical and clamorous aspects in actualizing a low-carbon California, rather than focus on the already much-discussed advancements in technologies and clean fuels.
The program will begin March 17 and run intermittently until May 5. Both free and open to the public, Growing Sustainability will provide audiences with a variety of people from many public sectors including non-profits, scholars, researchers, non-governmental organizations, and state decision-makers.
Attendees can look forward to hearing from Peter Calthrope--Berkeley professor, architect, planner, and author--in the April 21 forum about sustainable regional growth in California. The March 17 seminar will talk about California Senate Bill 375, an effort by the state to reduce green house gas emissions by controlling urban sprawl through smart city planning and bettering public transportation and walkways. To see scheduled speakers, interested persons can visit the university's Web site and look for events labeled IURD.
