Two weeks after adding a second Oscar to his collection, Sean Penn is considering a major role in a gritty thriller about a Mexican drug cartel.
Called "Cartel," the Universal Pictures drama may have Penn playing the role of Ed Marker, who struggles to protect his son after his wife is murdered by Mexican drug lords, Latina.com
reports.
The movie was originally intended to be a remake of the 1993 film "La Scorta," an Italian film about a group of bodyguards faced with the dangerous challenge of protecting a prosecutor from the mobsters he is trying to bust. But it was remade into an action thriller for Penn.
The movie is scheduled to be directed by Asger Leth, who was the maker of a critically acclaimed documentary about Port-Au-Prince street gangs called "Ghosts of Cite Soleil."
Penn received an Oscar in February for his portrayal of gay activist Harvey Milk in the movie "Milk."
