The King of Beers is sponsoring a scholarship drive that will help Hispanic students pay for college.

With an eye toward raising $20,000, Budweiser, along with its parent brewing company, Anheuser-Busch, will set aside 25 cents for every case of Budweiser, Bud Light and Budweiser Select 18-pack of bottles at Sedano's Supermarkets, a South Florida grocery chain.

The scholarships will help Hispanic students in the South Florida counties of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach pay for tuition and books over the four years of their college career. Scholarship recipients also receive mentoring and counseling to help them prepare for graduation and entry into the workforce.

The money will go through The Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation, whose mission includes sending more Hispanic students to college. When the foundation got off the ground in 1987, Budweiser was among its first sponsors, said Carlos Halley, chairman, Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation.

"The company has supported us every year since," he said in a statement.
"Together we have awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to Latino
students in South Florida."

The Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation is the charitable arm of Carnaval Miami, which celebrates Latino culture in South Florida by organizing the Calle Ocho Festival each year.

The donation will be presented at the Calle Ocho annual gala in Miami on
March 13.
