Oprah Winfrey, the television icon who revolutionized talk TV in the 1980s, has announced that she will end her show in 2011, so she can focus on starting her own cable channel.
Winfrey plans to make the formal announcement on her Friday show. Winfrey, who enjoyed a bump in ratings, after her Monday interview with Sarah Palin, ushered in a new era of talk television with the launch of her show in 1986, focusing mostly on women and minority issues.
Over the years she has interviewed the world's biggest celebrities.
Along the way, she also became one of the richest and most powerful women in the world.
