Evan Chandler, the father of Jordan Chandler, the teenager who initially accused Michael Jackson of child molestation in the 1990s, committed suicide earlier this month, according to published reports

Chandler, 65 apparently suffered from a serious, unknown illness. He was found in his bed with a single bullet shot to the head. The gun was still in his hand when his body was found.

Chandler was a one-time dentist in Beverly Hills. Although reports vary, the Chandler family received between $13 million and $25 million, in an out of court settlement stemming from the abuse allegations.

The criminal case against Jackson withered after the settlement of the civil suit; Jordan Chandler, now 29, and his family, refused to participate in the criminal proceedings after the settlement.
