Even as television is becoming ever-more proliferated with food and cooking-related shows (Top Chef: Masters; Cake Boss; even something called Cupcake Wars), the magazine world is showing retraction in the same sector. Gourmet magazine, the much loved and well-respected magazine for food lovers, is being shuttered by publisher Conde Nast, along with Modern Bride, Elegant Bride, and Cookie (a parenting magazine).
Gourmet is the nation's longest-running food magazine.
Since April 1999, it's editor-in-chief has been book author and former New York Times food critic Ruth Reichl. A new cookbook spinning out of the magazine, "Gourmet Today: More than 1000 All-New Recipes for the Contemporary Kitchen," just hit the bookshelves a couple weeks ago.
