Lou Dobbs Links Gunshot at His Home to Positions on Illegal Immigration

Did somebody try to kill Lou Dobbs? The CNN commentator is implying that the answer is yes, using his show to link an Oct. 5 incident in which his home was hit by a bullet to the controversial stand he routinely takes against illegal immigration. But New Jersey law enforcement officials say it's much more likely that the shot was a stray bullet from a nearby hunter. "At this time of year, hunter complaints go up," Sgt. Stephen Jones, a NJ State Police spokesperson, told freelance reporter Isabel Macdonald for the Huffington Post. On his show, Dobbs said he has long been receiving threatening phone calls for his passionate arguments against granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. Immigration groups, meanwhile, have gone public with their dislike of Dobbs, accusing him of associating with hate groups. On his radio show Monday, Dobbs said "ethno-centric groups" such as LULAC and National Council of La Raza have been attacking him for his views. "I'm the only thing standing between those open borders and unconditional amnesty for illegal immigrants. They want to destroy me, and they are taking their best shot at it, believe me," he said. "Three weeks ago this morning, a shot was fired at my house, where I live." Dobbs went on to say that his wife -- Debi Lee Segura, who is Mexican-American -- was standing outside at the time of the incident, which occurred on a farm in Wantage, about 50 miles northwest of New York City. "My wife has now been and I have been shot at," he said. However, Sgt. Jones noted that the bullet struck the "apex of the house, near the roof," high above a standing person. The Associated Press reported that although it is game-hunting season, no hunters were seen in the area.
