UNM School of Law works to create a diverse student population by
recruiting in New Mexico and surrounding states to let prospective
students know what it is like to be part of the law school community and
the legal profession. UNM School of Law sends recruiters to smaller
cities in the state and reaches out to communities with large Hispanic
and Native American populations, and it actively recruits at all of the
four-year colleges in the area. Agreements exist between UNM Law School
and tribes to help provide support for Native Americans interested in
attending law school. UNM hosts the Pre-Law Summer Institute, and many
UNM Law professors teach in this intensive summer program designed to
increase the success of Native American law school applicants. This
year, the Black Law Student Association, Native American Law Student
Association and Mexican American Law Student Association will hold an
introductory program open to all students admitted to the entering class
at UNM Law School to help them make the transition to law school.
