The University of Texas at Austin's close proximity and long standing relationship with Latin America creates an ideal atmosphere at the McCombs School of Business for Latinos and Hispanic Americans, who annually make up six to eight percent of the full-time MBA program. "The multi-cultural learning environment at McCombs is conducive to myriad viewpoints," says Eric Hirst, associate dean for graduate programs. "With our variety of student organizations, both professional and social, and unique classroom offerings we embrace diversity at every turn and view Latinos and Hispanic Americans as an integral, essential piece of each and every MBA class." Students continue to find success during their time as Texas MBAs and afterward as part of the workforce. Jesus Barron, with Global Supply & Trading at Chevron Corporation, adds, "McCombs provides a world-class business education that is highly relevant to both U.S. and international Hispanics, regardless of professional goals."
Hispanic student organizations at McCombs include the Hispanic Graduate Business Association, the Brazilian American Business Group, the International MBA Students Association, and the Consortium Fellows Business Association. The school also sponsors the National Society of Hispanic MBAs' annual conference and offers exchange and double-degree programs with more than 20 of the world's top schools, including 10 of the top business schools in Latin America. McCombs joint-degree program in Latin American Studies specializes in Latin American business issues, politics and cultures. The Executive MBA in Mexico City is a joint program with ITESM Mexico City. McCombs MBA Alumni Network has over 800 Latino members with local chapters in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru. McCombs actively recruits Hispanics at a series of recruiting events in major cities across the United States and in several Latin American countries.
