Diversity Council --> George Herrera, a former president of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, has joined Burger King Corp.'s Diversity Action Council, the company said Monday.

Mr. Herrera is the newest member to join the Diversity Action Council, which is made up of Burger King professionals and outside business leaders.

"George's understanding of and influence in the Hispanic community is unparalleled and promises to be an indispensable asset to the DAC," John Chidsey, Burger King's chief executive officer, said in a statement. "George's membership in the DAC is a key addition to the advisory body."

The DAC, started in 1991, serves as an independent advisory board for Burger King's diversity development goals. It represents the franchise and community interests of African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and other minority groups.

"I am honored to join the Diversity Action Council to continue promoting the voice of Hispanics and minorities in business," Mr. Herrera said in a statement.

Mr. Herrera led the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for five years, beginning in 1998. As head of the chamber, he served as the voice for more than 1.5 million Hispanic-owned businesses nationwide. Mr. Herrera currently serves as president and chief executive officer of the Herrera-Cristina Group, Ltd., a communications firm specializing in marketing, corporate diversity and public affairs. He also sits on the board of directors for Wyndham Worldwide Corporation, the hospitality services business spin-off of the Cendant Corporation.

Burger King Corp. operates more than 11,200 restaurants worldwide. About 90 percent of Burger King restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees.
