Harlingen, TX--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--July 23, 2007--Hispanic Active Relationships Project (H.A.R.P.) of Cameron County Presents an original play “I Do…Most of the Time” to premier August 2nd, 2007, at the Harlingen Performing Arts Theatre at 8 p.m, at no charge to the public. Commissioned by H.A.R.P. of Cameron County, this new comedy about marriage education is written by award-winning writer Rick Najera, who will be present as the guest of honor on August 2nd for the play’s premier. A total of eight performances in both English and Spanish will take place in Harlingen and Brownsville, TX, performed by Austin-based Teatro Vivo.
HARP Project Director, Kelly Simpson says, “HARP team members are thrilled to bring this first ever comedy written by a famous Latino Hollywood playwright especially for Hispanic families. The setting on stage is a pretend marriage enrichment classroom where couples “do the funny things that couples do.”
Through a grant of $2.5 million from the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) and the Department of Human and Health Services (DHHS), The H.A.R.P. will provide social services to strengthen families and marriages over the next five-year project period in Cameron County.
Najera, one of the nation’s most influential Latinos with writing credits including A Day Without a Mexican, LATINOLOGUES (TM) on Broadway, and television comedies such as MAD TV and In Living Color will give the play to the Cameron County community to perform in subsequent years.
