--> Hispanic America’s #1 morning show
Miami, FL--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--April 26, 2007--The Univision Television Network today announced its plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of “Despierta América” (Wake Up America), the longest-running and most successful weekday morning show on Spanish-language television. To commemorate this important milestone, “Despierta América” will feature a weeklong celebration beginning April 30th with highlights from the show’s history, celebrity visits and musical performances by some of the biggest Latin stars. The show will be broadcast during the regularly scheduled time period, 7 am -10 am ET/PT.
Throughout the 10th anniversary week, the show’s beloved hosts - Fernando Arau, Ana María Canseco, Raúl González, Karla Martinez, Neida Sandoval and Cosita, one of the most famous dogs on television - will re-live the show’s funniest moments, celebrate highlights of the most memorable guest appearances, including America’s favorite novela and movie actors, and enjoy the return of Univision personalities to the show.
The celebration will also feature musical performances by mega-superstars, including Laura Flores, Patrulla 81, Don Omar, Hector El Father, and Elvis Crespo, who will be performing his latest hit La Foto se me Borro.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating this significant event,” said Alina Falcón, Univision’s Executive Vice President and Operating Manager. “As America’s leading Spanish-language morning show, ‘Despierta América’ has a long history and strong connection with Hispanics and our viewers have come to rely on us for their news, information, and great entertainment to start out the day.”
Since its debut in 1997, “Despierta América” has become an important platform for popular personalities, sports figures, Hollywood artists, and members of Congress and government officials in the Hispanic community. Today, “Despierta América” reaches more than 6 million viewers every week who tune in for its unique blend of humor and the latest national news and weather, cooking ideas, fashion tips, special guests, and entertainment highlights.
The show’s enormous popularity has translated into impressive ratings. “Despierta América” has a higher Hispanic viewership than ABC’s “Good Morning America,” NBC’s “Today Show,” CBS’s “The Early Show,” and Telemundo’s “Cada Día” combined. On average, it delivers 95% more Adult 18-34 viewers and 33% more Adults 18-49 viewers than the combined viewership of ABC, NBC, CBS and Telemundo. “Despierta América” is also the #1 morning show in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Phoenix, and Fresno among all Adults 18-34 viewers, that’s all Adults, not just Hispanics. It is also the #1 morning show among all Adults 18-49 viewers, regardless of language, in Los Angeles (tied with GMA and KABC), Phoenix, and Fresno.
The show’s hosts are an integral part of the program and its success. Fernando, Raúl, Ana María, and Karla delight viewers with their lively discussions, humorous sports segment, character impersonations, and showbiz segments. And throughout the broadcast, Neida reports on the day’s most important headlines and breaking stories. “Despierta América” also boasts one of the most famous dogs on television, Cosita, who has captured the hearts of millions of viewers.
