SEATTLE, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alaska Airlines' regularly scheduled air service to Cancun International Airport remains canceled until further notice as a result of Hurricane Wilma. The carrier ceased its one daily flight to Cancun, Mexico, on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
"Alaska Airlines is evaluating the situation at Cancun's airport on an hour-by-hour basis," said Julian Acosta, Alaska's director general for Mexico operations. "We will resume flights as soon as the airport re-opens to regularly scheduled air traffic."
Alaska opened a relief station at the office of the U.S. Consulate in Cancun today that will arrange transportation out of the region for stranded passengers. Alaska passengers currently in Cancun are encouraged to seek assistance at the relief station, located in the city's Hotel Zone at Segundo Nivel No. 320-323, Plaza Caracol Dos, Blvd. Kukulkan. Passengers can also call 1-800-ALASKAAIR for assistance.
The carrier has established a special policy to assist ticketed passengers whose travel plans have been impacted by the hurricane. Details on the policy and the status of Cancun flights are available at the carrier's Web site at alaskaair.com.
