As the U.S. Hispanic population continues to surge, growth has expanded beyond metropolitan cities such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami and into surrounding counties.

A review of counties with the largest percentage increase in Hispanic populations from 2000 to 2003 shows Middlesex County, Massachusetts – the state's largest county, which includes the Boston area – recorded the largest percentage increase in Hispanic population – up 67 percent. The New York state counties of Suffolk and Nassau saw the next-highest increases of 46 percent and 43 percent, respectively.
