Impressive Growth Continues in Primetime and Total Day Among Key Demographics
Los Angeles, CA--(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)--December 16, 2003--Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE: UVN), the leading Spanish-language media company in the United States, today announced that according to Nielsen Media Research, both the Univision Network and the TeleFutura Network each reached record high November Sweeps audience levels during primetime and total day among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers 2+ during the 2003 November Sweeps. Both Networks experienced significant viewership and ratings growth during primetime and total day among key demographics, compared to the November Sweep last year.
“Both the Univision and TeleFutura Networks garnered terrific results during the November Sweeps period, each experiencing continued viewership growth while the primetime audiences of all but one of our broadcast competitors (English- and Spanish-language) decreased,” said Ray Rodriguez, Chief Operating Officer, Univision Television Networks. “During this competitive Sweeps period, both the quality and popularity of our programming was enhanced, allowing our unique relationship with our audiences to continue to grow.”
During the 2003 November Sweep, the Univision Network’s primetime audience increased 6% among Hispanic Households, 10% among Total Viewers, 8% among Adults 18-49 and 9% among Adults 18-34. Univision’s total day viewership increased to record highs, achieving growth of 10% among Hispanic Households, 14% among Total Viewers, 11% among Adults 18-49 and 9% among Adults 18-34. The Network also saw Adult 18-49 viewership increases of 13% in early morning, 9% in early fringe and 39% in weekend daytime. “Noticiero Univision,” Univision’s 6:30 pm network news program, achieved viewership increases of 9% among Hispanic Households, 14% among Total Viewers and 6% among Adults 18-49 compared to last year.
Notwithstanding the remarkable growth at Univision, the TeleFutura Network achieved considerable primetime and total day viewership growth during the Sweep as well. In primetime, TeleFutura’s audience increased 41% among Hispanic Households, 48% among Total Viewers, 49% among Adults 18-49 and 27% among Adults 18-34. Audience levels during total day increased 49% among Hispanic Households, 61% among Total Viewers, 60% among Adults 18-49 and 44% among Adults 18-34. The Network also saw Adult 18-49 viewership increases of 139% in early morning, 95% in daytime, 52% in early fringe and 34% in weekend daytime.
The Univision and TeleFutura Networks combined also saw notable increases in share during the November Sweep, growing their total day share against all viewing sources (English- and Spanish-language) by 4 points among Adults 18-34 and by 2 points among Adults 18-49. The Networks’ primetime share against all viewing sources increased by 3 points among Adults 18-34 and 2 points among Adults 18-49. The combined networks also saw primetime Spanish-language share increases during the November Sweep of 2 points among Adults 18-49 and 3 points among Adults 18-34.
