SANTA BARBARA, CA--(HISPANIC PR WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2003--The 13th annual Hispanic Business magazine EOY(R) (Entrepreneur of the Year) Awards Gala will be held November 20 at the Century Plaza Hotel and Spa in Los Angeles. CNN anchorwoman Maria Hinojosa will guest-host this year’s ceremony. As an urban affairs correspondent for CNN, Ms. Hinojosa has covered a variety of stories and events, including the Amadou Diallo case and the struggle of Kosovar Albanians in the United States. In 2001, she presented a week-long CNN/Time magazine series titled The New Frontier/La Nueva Frontera, which observed the state of the U.S.-Mexico border in the post-NAFTA era. With her column Living La Vida Latina, she became Time magazine’s first Mexican-American columnist.
Hispanic Business magazine presents the annual Entrepreneur of the Year Award, one of the business community’s most prestigious honors, to recognize the drive, innovative courage, and civic responsibility of America’s most successful Hispanic entrepreneurs. The selection process begins with a national call for nominations, and the winner is selected after an evaluation that involves objective assessment of the nominated business owners by a panel of nationally recognized business and education leaders.
“More than a decade ago, we set out to recognize each year a particular individual who best represents the imagination and spirit, the drive and discipline of Hispanic entrepreneurship in America,” stated Jesús Chavarría, CEO of Hispanic Business Inc. “In the 13 years since the first Entrepreneur of the Year award, the number of Hispanic firms has grown tremendously, from less than half a million in 1990 to more than 1.5 million today.”
This year’s event will also mark the introduction of the Hispanic Business Lifetime Achievement Awards, which have been established to recognize leaders from the business, education, government, and nonprofit sectors who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the U.S. Hispanic community. Daisy Exposito-Ulla, president of The Bravo Group, and Antonio Flores, president of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, are our inaugural honorees.
Coming up on its 25th anniversary, Hispanic Business Inc. continues to reach the most affluent segment of the U.S. Hispanic market, including business owners, executives, and professionals.
